California vs Hate Pride Tour 2024: Standing Together Against Hate Across California

This year, California vs Hate took a bold stand at Pride events up and down our state, showing up to support the LGBTQ+ community in the fight against hate. Our 2024 Pride tour brought us to communities in West Hollywood, Fresno, Sacramento, Chico, San Francisco, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Oakland, Orange County, Yuba City, Palm Springs, and the California State Fair, reaching an estimated 1.4 million people who attended the celebrations statewide.

We were fortunate to be joined by partners across the state who marched alongside California vs Hate in solidarity with LGBTQ+ Californians, including Business, Consumer Services and Housing Secretary Tomiquia Moss, Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries, Family Assistance Program, California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, AAPI Youth Rising, City of Berkeley, San Francisco Human Rights Commission, Family Bridges, UC Berkeley Student Government, OC Justice Initiative, 211 LA, California Commission on the State of Hate, and numerous friends, family, and community members.

Each stop along the way reminded us of the resilience, joy, and acceptance that make California truly extraordinary. We met people of all identities, ages, and backgrounds, all sharing in the vision of a state that not only accepts but celebrates our diversity.

Our journey across California enabled us to directly connect with communities, raise awareness about California’s nation-leading anti-hate hotline, and ensure that all residents know: there’s support when you report.

Here’s a look at some of the highlights from our Pride tour:

Standing in solidarity with targeted communities across California is essential in the fight against hate. Reported hate crimes targeting individuals based on sexual orientation or gender identity have risen significantly in recent years. According to data reported to the California Department of Justice, hate crimes motivated by sexual orientation bias have nearly doubled since 2019, increasing from 233 to 405 in 2023. Over the same period, reported hate crimes motivated by anti-transgender bias more than doubled, rising from 29 to 65. The data reveals the urgency of addressing hate in all forms and underscores the importance of resources like CA vs Hate.

When we stand together, we show that hate has no place in our state and that everyone has a right to live safely and authentically.

Pride is an incredible show of the resilience and strength of the LGBTQ+ community in the face of hate, and CA vs Hate is committed to standing alongside all targeted communities. As our Pride tour comes to a close, we’re more motivated than ever to keep showing up for Californians in the fight against hate.
